How Scout works

The hiring loop end to end: brief, interview guide, outreach, screening, scorecards, and the decision.

Scout runs one loop for every role. Knowing the loop means you always know what happens next, and what Scout is waiting on you for.

The loop

  1. Brief. A role is created from your careers page, a job description or by hand. It holds the title, location, salary, must-haves and the full description. See Roles.
  2. Interview guide. Scout drafts a screening interview for the role and shows you the questions. You refine it, try it yourself, and approve it. See Interview guides.
  3. Outreach. You connect LinkedIn once. You give Scout people to contact, or ask it to suggest candidates already in your pipeline, and tell it to go live. Scout sends connection notes as you, within your daily limit, and replies to the people who answer. See LinkedIn outreach.
  4. Screening. An interested candidate is asked for their email and CV, then emailed a personal interview link. They take a short voice interview with Scout whenever suits them. On a CV-review role there is no interview: Scout collects the CV and posts it to you instead. See AI screening or CV review.
  5. Scorecard. Scout grades the interview against the guide and produces a verdict, a score, strengths and concerns. Scorecards arrive in your Slack digest and on the dashboard. See Scorecards.
  6. Decision. You press Make an intro and Scout sends the candidate your booking link, or Reject and Scout sends a short decline. Either way the candidate stays in your pipeline with their transcript and verdict.

What needs your say-so

Scout runs most things the moment you ask. It stops for a Confirm click before anything destructive or expensive: queueing a batch for outreach, going live, deleting a role, candidate, guide or scorecard, revoking or resetting an interview, re-grading, inviting or removing a teammate, and changing workspace settings. Only the person who asked can confirm, and the card expires after 15 minutes.

Sending an interview to a candidate who replied, and replying to candidates on LinkedIn, happen without a card once outreach is live. Pausing outreach is immediate and never asks. The full list is in Talking to Scout.

Where things land

WhatWhere
Replies to youThe thread you asked in, or your DM
ScorecardsThe pipeline digest in your notification channel, and the Scorecards page
CV reviewsYour notification channel, as a card with Interested and Not interested
Candidate questions Scout cannot answerYour notification channel, as a "Needs a human answer" card
Every LinkedIn exchangeMirrored into your notification channel, and logged word for word under Outreach
Pipeline digestYour notification channel, weekly on Monday at 09:00 by default

If no notification channel is set, Scout falls back to the most recent DM for the digest and escalations. CV-review cards need a channel. Set one with /scout notify; see Set up Slack.

Timing

  • Outreach starts as soon as you say go live and first connection requests typically go out the same day.
  • Replies are checked about every two hours during your working hours, plus a daily catch-up.
  • Interviews take candidates ten to fifteen minutes and can be done any time within 14 days of the invite.
  • Grading finishes in the background within minutes of the interview ending.
  • Digests post on your schedule, weekly on Monday morning unless you change it.

Most teams see their first screened candidates within the first week.
