Scout in Slack

Set up Slack

Add Scout to your workspace, link teammates, choose the channel Scout posts in, and disconnect.

Scout is a Slack app. One workspace connects to one Scout account, and every teammate who wants to talk to Scout links their Slack user to their Scout login once.

Add Scout to Slack

  1. Sign in to the dashboard and open Slack under Connections in the sidebar. Only a workspace owner or admin sees the button; everyone else sees "Ask an agency owner or admin to connect Slack."
  2. Press Add to Slack. Slack shows what Scout needs and asks you to allow it for your workspace.
  3. You are sent back to the dashboard with "Slack connected. Your team can start talking to Scout."

Scout links the person who installed it automatically and sends them a welcome DM with the setup video and the first steps.

What Scout can do in your workspace

Scout asks Slack for permission to read messages that mention it or are sent to it directly, post messages and add reactions, read files you share with it, respond to the /scout command, and read the installer's name and email so it can link the account. It has no access to channels it has not been invited to.

Each person needs two things: a Scout login in your workspace, and a link between that login and their Slack user.

  1. An owner or admin invites them from Team in the dashboard, or asks Scout in Slack to invite them. They accept the emailed invite and set a password.
  2. In Slack, they run /scout link them@company.com using the exact email on their Scout account. Scout emails a six-digit code.
  3. They run /scout verify 123456. Scout replies "Linked! You can now DM me or @mention me to run your recruiting from Slack."

Until someone is linked, Scout answers them with "You're not linked to a Scout recruiter account yet" and the two commands above.

Note

The code only arrives if that exact email has a Scout account in the workspace's agency. A typo, or a personal address instead of the invited one, gets the same neutral reply and no email. Check the address on the Team page.

Choose the channel Scout posts in

Scout replies to you wherever you talk to it. Reports, cards and candidate questions go to one notification channel.

  1. Create or pick a channel, for example #hiring.
  2. Invite Scout: /invite @scout.
  3. In that channel, run /scout notify. Scout posts "Scout will post interview updates here."

Run the command inside the channel you want. Naming a different channel in the command does not work. To move, run /scout notify in the new channel.

What goes to the notification channel: the pipeline digest with completed scorecards, CV-review cards, candidate questions Scout escalates to you, every LinkedIn conversation as it happens, and opt-out notices. Without a channel, the digest and escalations fall back to a DM, and CV-review cards are not posted at all.

Check the connection

The Slack page in the dashboard shows the connected workspace, whether a notification channel is set, and which teammates are linked. In Slack, /scout status gives quick interview counts.

Disconnect

On the Slack page, press Disconnect. This removes the workspace connection and unlinks every teammate. Roles, candidates and scorecards are untouched, and you can reconnect at any time.

Warning

Reinstalling Scout from Slack's side creates a fresh connection. Teammates then show as not linked and need to run /scout link again.
