Roles and screening

AI screening or CV review

Choose per role whether candidates take the AI interview or go straight to a CV review card in Slack.

Every role screens candidates one of two ways. You choose per role, and you can change it at any time.

ModeWhat the candidate doesWhat you get
AI screening (default)Takes a short voice interview with ScoutA scorecard with a verdict, score, strengths and concerns
CV reviewSends their CV in the LinkedIn conversationA CV summary in Slack and on the role page, and you decide

When to skip the interview

CV review suits senior roles where an AI screening would feel wrong to the candidate, or roles where the CV tells you enough to decide on a call. Nothing else changes: outreach, pacing and the conversation are the same. The decision is the recruiter's, never the candidate's.

Switch a role

In Slack, say any of "skip the interview", "no screening", "CV only" or "straight to intro" for the role. "Turn the interview back on" switches it back. Scout always describes the role as "AI screening" or "CV review" so you can see which it is.

On the dashboard, open the role. A banner reads "A 6-question intro screen has been generated for this role. Use it, or skip it and review CVs directly?" Choose Skip - CV review, or use the Screening selector: AI screening or CV review - no interview.

Switching a live role is safe. Interviews already sent stay valid, and the interview guide is kept, so turning screening back on is instant.

The CV review flow

  1. A candidate says they are interested. Scout asks for their email and CV together, as it always does.
  2. When the CV arrives, Scout tells them "thanks, I'll come back to you shortly." No interview is sent.
  3. Scout posts a CV review card to your notification channel: a summary of the CV, up to five highlights, and one line of things worth checking against the role, such as location. No score.
  4. Someone on your team presses Interested or Not interested - on the Slack card, or on the role page under CV review.

Interested sends the candidate the booking link on LinkedIn, or by email if LinkedIn is unavailable: the role's interview contact's link if one is set, otherwise your default one, which Scout asks for in Slack the first time. Not interested tells the candidate you will not be moving forward, straight away. On the role page both buttons ask you to confirm first.

If nobody decides within three days, Scout reposts the card once as "Still waiting". A candidate who says they are interested but sends no CV after two asks is noted in the channel so you can chase them yourself.

Note

CV-review cards are only posted to a notification channel. Set one with /scout notify; any card that was waiting is posted the moment it is set. Without Slack, decide on the role page. See Set up Slack.

Where it shows on the dashboard

Open the role to see a CV review panel with each candidate's state:

StateMeaning
Waiting for CVInterested, asked for the CV, not received yet
With the team in SlackCard posted, no decision yet
Waiting on a decisionCV in, but no Slack channel yet so no card; decide on the role page

From a role's suggested candidates you can also send someone straight to CV review with CV review, and from the candidate's page you can open the CV file.

What the candidate is told

On an AI-screening role the LinkedIn conversation is honest that the next step is a short AI screening interview of about fifteen minutes. On a CV-review role the candidate is asked for a CV and told you will come back to them. What they receive on each path is in What candidates see.
